Lip Scrub or Lip Peel: Which One for Dark Lips?

Last updated: October 7, 2026

An exfoliant for dark lips is chosen on five criteria. Here they are, and how to read them on a label.

In short

  1. Exfoliation without grains.
  2. Enzymes rather than strong acids.
  3. Actives that work on pigmentation.
  4. A pH that respects the lip.
  5. The right rhythm.

1. Exfoliation without grains

Sugar, salt or baking soda rub the lip. An irritated lip can darken1. Gentle exfoliation respects it.

2. Enzymes rather than strong acids

Bromelain, the pineapple enzyme, gently loosens dead cells. No grains, no burning.

3. Actives that work on pigmentation

Exfoliating is not correcting. Kojic dipalmitate and tranexamic acid2 work on melanin.

4. A pH that respects the lip

A pH close to the skin's avoids harming the lip.

5. The right rhythm

Over-exfoliating weakens the lip. LIPS-ID® sets this rhythm. As maintenance, once or twice a week.
